You Know You’re Settling In When…

To become a funny motivational speaker, one has to look at the world through goofy glasses.  When we do this we get lots of material that can be woven into a humorous story that can help our audience relate to us and in turn, learn from.  The best stories come from our most tumultuous times, as Judy Carter suggested during Laugh Lab. I am just now in the middle of one of these times because not only have I moved to a new place of residence but I'm starting a new chapter in my life as well.  Glad I didn't forget my goofy glasses that have let me observe my transitions in a comical way.  I’d like to share a few of them with you.

You know you’re finally getting settled in a new place when:

  • You find the perfect window and light for plucking errant facial hairs
  • You automatically flick the right light switch out of three
  • Your keys are always in the same resting place
  • A smile creeps across your face when you turn onto your new street
  • Your bathroom drawer finally has all the floss, aspirin, soap, and toothpaste you need for basic hygiene
  • You’ve tossed out your first clump of rotten cilantro from the vegetable drawer
  • You get a happy feeling in your heart when you pull up into the driveway
  • You’ve figured out the measurement for perfect coffee in your new coffee pot
  • You finally pull open the right drawer for your short sleeved T-shirts
  • As you open the front door and step inside, this comes out of your mouth, “Ahhhhh”

In order to improve the lives of others we have to improve our own lives first.  I’m happy to be on this new journey with the support and friendship of all of you wonderful MSR women!!!

Motivational Speaker Polly Pitchford didn’t always know the phytochemical benefits of kale, in fact, those words weren’t even in her vocabulary 30 years ago. Neither did she see any reason to do jumping jacks on a cement surface for an hour. But all it took was a chance vegetarian cooking class and some high-energy music to open her eyes upon a whole new world of healthy living. For 30 years Polly has practiced, studied, taught, educated and lived a healthy lifestyle that makes her such a powerful speaker.

Polly’s down-to-Earth and humorous approach mirrors her own lifelong journey to lasting, positive changes. The audience walks away with tangible plans for improving their health and their lives through food, fitness and fun.

  1. I'm so proud of you, Polly, for noticing the tiny joys in your new life.  Reminds me of the scene from that movie in the 80's – St Elmo's Fire – where the frumpy girl who is in love with Rob Lowe the whole movie, finally gets her own place at the end and steps out on her own. Remember how happy she was? How that peanut butter and jelly sandwich tasted so delicious? Because it was hers. In her new place.  Enjoy your peanut butter and jelly sandwich my friend.

  2. I smiled with you, Polly, at every item that made you feel good about being home, and even laughed out loud at the cilantro-toss! I'm going to relish the blogs and stories that come from your new chapter, and it makes my heart happy you are not just speaking, but living your truth.

  3. Ahhhh Polly. See, I did the "ahhhhh" with you!  You once again showed me why funny motivational speakers – like YOU – bring such tremendous value to the world! You take a tough situation and show me that we CAN find the funny in it! I love this, Polly. And I'm honored to be on the journey with you. I know I will learn so much.

  4. I would add one more to your list Polly – being so clear that you are able to articulate the happiness in the little things!  Congratulations on this list and more to come.  As I read your list, I too smiled and thought "Ahhhh" for you!  So happy to enjoy this new chapter with you.
