When opportunity hides in unlikely places
Why would you do that for free? You're a professional.
Free jobs just get more free jobs.

Yes. I've heard all of this before, even said it a time or two myself. I'm a big believer in the fact that we only have a limited amount of time, and focus is a key ingredient to making money in business. I do believe that we shouldn't have to give away our expertise to be successful.
I said yes to another podcast. I've done too many to count. Why? Sometimes I wonder myself. I'm not paid for them. I've never really seen any turn into paying work. And I've not been able to track any exposure.
I said yes. Sigh. So I did it, and I gave it my all. I gave 100% to that video interview that wasn't putting any money in my pocket.
Two weeks later I get a call from a television producer. They want to talk to me about being a host. Why me? I asked. What makes you think I would be a good host on your show?
We saw a video interview you did. It showed us what you would look like on camera. You are what we are looking for.
It wasn't my performance videos. It wasn't my slick website or fancy social media presence. It was that one free video interview.
Hhhmmm. Makes you think.
