Want a Smarter Brain? Then Get Happy NOW!

BrainAs a motivational speaker I can make all kinds of assertions from the platform, but if I don't have the facts and data to back those assertions up – then I'm not doing my job.  Not only that, but we have this thing now-a-days called the "internet."  And before I've walked off that stage you can check to see if what I said is actually true or not.

So as a STRONG proponent of the importance of, and value in maintaining a positive, optimistic outlook in life, I've like to share some cool data with you.

Here's the truth about your brain when it is in a positive state:

1.  You perform significantly better than when you are in a negative, neutral or stressed state
2.  Your intelligence rises
3.  You are more creative
4.  You are actually 31% more productive
5.  You are 37% better at sales

Pretty cool, eh? Oh there's a LOT more research and information to support my belief that –  1) we will be more successful in all areas of our life if we choose happiness –  2) it IS a choice and – 3) there are specific things we can actually DO to heighten our level of optimism and happiness.

My colleague and good friend, motivational speaker Colette Carlson, wrote a GREAT blog post about how you can increase your level of happiness by keeping a Gratitude Journal wherein you make daily entries, listing a few things you are grateful for.  Another proven way to pump up your Happy Hormones is to practice daily random acts of kindness. Again – another way to retrain your brain to GET in and STAY in a positive state.

I'll leave you with this one last piece of data:  Apparently doctors are 19% faster and more accurate at coming up with the correct diagnosis when they are in a positive state of mind. So the moral here is obvious.  If you are waiting in the examining room and your doctor walks in and appears to be in a cranky mood – RUN! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!

  1. And that’s why I love motivational speakers like Linda Larsen – because they serve an important purpose. As Linda stated, thanks to the internet, we have all the information we need without ever leaving our house. You can look up every single thing you have a question about, and find it right there on your computer. You don’t need us to come in and spit it back to you. You need us to come and help you process it. Help you put it into action. Help you see that you have the power to make it happen. To encourage you and motivate you and energize you. And computers can’t do that. Information can’t do that. THAT’S the beauty and value of a motivational speaker. And THAT’S why I love Linda Larsen.

  2. Gratitude journals, choosing happiness, finding facts…yes yes yes!  I love my motivational speaker friends who are on the same page as me!!!! Keep spreading the word about how powerful being positive is!
