Truth in Advertising?

I’m sure by now you’ve heard fifty is the new thirty. But sixty is the new sixty?

Imagine my pleasant surprise seeing cosmetics companies using ads that focus on a woman’s authentic age. Sure it probably has everything to do with the power of the purse given  the volume of Baby Boomers, but it leaves me with a rosy glow. MAC Cosmetics campaign using 90 year old fashion icon and socialite Iris Apfel launched in January and products have sold out!

Which brings me to my point. People appreciate truth. I’d much rather buy a night cream that promises it will keep my skin from looking like a lizard in the morning than one that promises I will look 10 years younger by next Tuesday. When I go to a seminar that promises I’ll learn A-Z on a subject, I’m not happy when I only learn A and get up-sold to learn B-Z. And I bet this motivational speaker is not the only one out there who prefers truth in advertising. How about you?

  3. I LOVE these senior fashion icons of New York!  I think I saw a YouTube video of these women who own their age and have kept stylin’.  So smart of MAC Cosmetics to campaign with the truth that you speak on!

Thanks Colette – I’m there with you.  I saw a speaker one time who had about 7 strategies and fill in the blanks on his handout.  I noticed, that he skipped one completely and when I asked him about it later he looked at me like I had two heads.  He never intended to cover all the strategies, he just wanted us to buy his weekend event where we would get more answers.  Uh, no thanks.
