There’s Brilliance in the Right Question

Consider this question: What did you have for dinner last night?  Well?

Okay, regardless of your answer – I’ll bet you did NOT start thinking about what shoes you wore yesterday. Why? Because that’s not the question I asked. Your brain only tries to find the answer to the question that is asked.

With that in mind – here’s something I have noticed in the difference between a GREAT customer service provider and a bad one.  They both keep playing a couple of questions in their respective heads.  I’m going to share some of those probable questions – and as you are reading them, remember:  Because those are the questions they are asking themselves – they are only going to find answers to those questions.

GREAT CS: How many people I can make REALLY happy today? How many problems can I solve – as if it was really EASY for me? How many smiles and “wows” can I get today? How many people can I interact with in such a way that they walk away saying, “You made my day!!! Thank you!”

BAD CS: How many cranky people with stupid requests are going to show up today? Why do all these danged customers keep interrupting me? How can I get rid of those problem people as fast as possible? Why is this day going so slowly?

Do you see what I see?  Both of these people end up finding answers to the questions they are asking. And the results? Well, that’s pretty obvious, isn’t it?

There are INFINITE ways to use this tool beyond providing outstanding customer service.  So I’ll ask you, in what areas of your life, or career could you exponentially increase the quality of your results by changing the questions you ask yourself? And exactly what questions would you start asking?
