It was clearly stated, straight forward and genuinely pleasant. I heard my husband (you may know him as the Weather Muffin) on the phone canceling his credit card. He had, for the first time in the ten years that he had the card, inadvertently missed a payment due date by two days. He requested that they reimburse him the $30 late fee charge, and when they declined, he calmly said, “I understand. Then will you please cancel my credit card account?” After a pause I heard him say, again very calmly, “I’m not frustrated. It’s a business decision.”
It turns out that in the end, he was indeed reimbursed the $30 and he kept the account active. But he never wavered from his position. He set a very powerful example of how effectively someone could actually function and communicate from the left, logical, analytical side of their brain – and get very excellent results. An activity seldom experienced by some of us right-brained, emotional, impulsive types!
So the next time this kind of situation happens to me – and I want to get a bit indignant or offended, I'll simply think to myself, "How would Mr. Spock handle this?"
