When you look at successful people, you may wonder why they get all the luck. Or, you may see they are a hard worker, and that's why they get all breaks. Have you ever thought that maybe just maybe, they were in the right place at the right time? Last night I was invited to a dinner hosted by one of my clients. They happened to be attending a convention in Las Vegas at a resort not 7 minutes from my house. We were having a great dinner when I saw a person enter the restaurant with a group of businessmen. I remembered her from a couple of conferences where I was the motivational speaker for. Coincidentally, she was hosting a dinner for her clients that were attending the same conference as my client.
After our fun dinner, I said goodbye to my clients and went over to say hello to my friend. She immediately introduced me to all the men at her dinner laughing that I was a welcomed addition of estrogen! She raved about my speaking which produced two business cards of people interested in what I do.
Will it turn into business? I don't know. But, a referral from a trusted colleague meant enough to them to ask me to follow up. I will follow up, remind them where we met, mention my friend's name and send them a copy of my new book. Yes, I work hard when I'm on stage. Yes, I stay connected with my clients and attendees; especially the one's who really like me. But, I believe some of my success comes from the fact that I'm willing to show up, be seen, and increase the chances of being in the right place at the right time. Last night, it came in the form of having a great dinner at the hotel where my clients were attending a conference that I wasn't involved with.
So get out there and stay connected with people and increase your chances of being in the right place at the right time with people who just may hire you!
