Popsicle Power

Every motivational speaker on the planet should have someone like Kate Holgate on their team.  I LOVE her!  She is incredibly smart, funny, creative and supportive.  She now works remotely for me as my operations manager, but used to work here in my office right next to me for 3 years.

And when you work side by side with someone 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year, every once in a blue moon, someone will get on someone’s nerves. Hellooooo.  That’s called life.

I clearly remember something that happened several years ago when she was here – and the HUGE discovery I made about about how to quickly de-escalate any disagreement!

We locked horns on some issue and when the upset emotions started kicking in we decided to set everything aside and take it up later when we could think more clearly.  We stopped discussing the issue, but our frustration didn’t immediately disappear.

So I did something that turned out to be VERY effective – that I had NO idea actually WAS!  I went to the freezer, got 2 popsicles and brought them back in the office.  I gave one to her and we started to eat them.  We both immediately started smiling and feeling better!  It was like magic!  You simply can NOT be angry while slurping on a popsicle!

Go!  Run!  Get thee to a grocery store right now and stock up!  And then next time you start to get in an argument with your spouse, your boss, your co-worker or anyone, simply say, “Hold on a sec.  Stay right there.”  Then run get a frozen fruity tutti treat and give it to them.

And do I even need to stress this?   GIVE it to them.  Do NOT hit them over the head with it.

From motivational speaker, Linda Larsen, with a HUGE freezer filled with popsicles!

  1. What timing Linda! I need some popsicles this week – tax week – to keep Bill from killing me!

  2. What a great way to cool down when conversations heat up!  I can just picture you two slurping away!

  3. And Popsicles leave you with a clear, healthy head – unlike that dirty martini, glass of wine or cigarette some reach for in a tense moment. Great suggestion Linda. Kelly, the only benefit of having to fill out those endless college forms is that I had to have my taxes done by 2/3, so that’s already behind me. I needed a case of popsicles that week! May Bill get a $return on his time.

  4. You mean I can’t storm off to my office with my own Ben and Jerry’s?
