I remember a time, before kids, way before this awesome motivational speaker gig, when I was focusing soley on cooking natural foods from scratch.  I’m talking pickling cucumbers, soaking dried beans overnight, fermenting soybeans, feeding the sourdough starter, marinating tofu then frying it then boiling it then frying it again to get the most amazing flavor and texture and sprouting anything that crossed my path.  I lived in the kitchen and loved every minute of it.

Fast forward to today.  Time spent in kitchen: not so much.

Don’t get me wrong though.  I still fervently believe in eating a healthy diet from fresh, whole, natural foods but my present schedule has narrowed the window of time preparing them.  That’s why I’m always happy to find products on store shelves that save me time and are a healthy part of my meal.

In introduce you to Near East Quinoa Blend.  Delicious!  Quinoa is a whole grain and a complete protein with a pleasant, nutty flavor and a texture that kind of pops when you chew it.  Just add water and a tablespoon of olive oil and let it simmer for 25 minutes.  As you can see from the photo, I enjoyed a glass of red while it simmered and chopped some broccoli for the steamer while Grill Guy was tending the salmon.  Add an insty salad from a tub of baby greens and you’ve got yourself a fabuloso dinner in under 30 minutes.  That kind of time I still have!

  1. Yummo!!!  And Polly, that’s my problem exactly!  I go to Whole Foods and am overwhelmed by all the products and don’t know which ones to choose. So thank you for that recommendation for the Quinoa (which I LOVE LOVE LOVE!)


  2. Well there you go again, inspiring me to eat healthy! I wish you lived near me! Then again – thanks to blogs, you do! As a motivational speaker who’s not so motivated to eat healthy, I walk into a grocery store and my eyes gravitate to packaged and processed. Thank you for helping me fight the magnetic attraction and head for fresh and healthy. You keep showing me that healthy doesn’t have to taste bad!   By the way…I tried cooking Quinoa and must have really messed it up because it was awful. I’ll try this brand you mentioned and see if I can get it right. Thanks again Polly!
