Point-Counterpoint

Brilliant, I say.  The man is brilliant.

We were having a (gasp!) political discussion at dinner with friends.  And, since my Weather Muffin husband gets highly passionate about….well….almost EVERYTHING, he was waxing on about the merits of a certain political point of view.  I could see our friend Phil (who holds fairly opposing beliefs) listening calmly.  No eye rolling.  No snorting.  No guffawing. No smirking. Just listening attentively, maintaining great eye contact, and occasionally nodding to show he was tuned in.

And then, after hearing John fully espouse his theory, Phil kindly asked, “May I offer a counterpoint?”

It was FABULOUS!  I almost cheered!  Not for Phil’s point of view, but for how beautifully he offered it.

We are moving into a very, very, VERY intense political time in our country.  Things are bound to get heated up and loud.  Why not try this the next time you are confronted with someone that you KNOW you will disagree with?

From your conciliatory motivational speaker, Linda Larsen, just trying to keep the conversation going

  3. Nice going Phil!  The first being the ability to let someone speak without disruption (HUGE) and the second with his phraseology.  Very respectful.
