Nice or B****y – Who Wins?

Somewhere along the way I think some women (and men) got the impression that to get what you want in life, you have to be a b**** (rhymes with “itch” for those who haven’t had enough coffee to figure it out). Being in the motivational speaking business I see a LOT of people who climb the ladder of success by finding the ones most likely to take them to the next rung, and ignoring the rest. And despite the fact that there are plenty of really successful people out there who are downright mean – I still believe that being nice will take you the farthest. I still believe that serving others will serve you well, especially if it’s a sincere desire to serve, without thinking of what you will get out of it.

This played out again in my life the other day when someone I befriended in an audience, who wanted my help making her dreams come true, turned out to be someone who would bring me business. You never know when you are entertaining angels unaware, as the Bible teaches. And you never know when your kindness will turn around and kiss you back. So drop the ‘tude and be nice. Serve your way to success. And who knows – you just might make the world a better place in the process.
