I wondered what it would be like to spend a day the way I always think I would like to spend it. As a motivational speaker on health and wellness I encourage others to eat well, care for their physical body and reduce stress, so I made my own arrangements and set myself up for just such a pleasant, stress-free Polly Day.
I always start with a big glass of filtered water. We dehydrate as we sleep, you know. Then my favorite a.m. ritual: a strong cup of black coffee. With my second cup I felt like I indulged with a Coconut Larabar. But it's not an indulgence, it just tastes like one. Only 120 calories and all raw, organic, fiber rich, coconut yumminess! A Honey Crisp apple is a lovely way to top off a Breaking of a Fast.
Just to make sure the day would be spent in an even tempered, focused way I had made a massage appointment. If ever I could budget well enough to get a massage every week, well, maybe today just inspired me to rework my finances because I felt awesome afterwards! Reconnected with my body and rededicated to treating it with kindness.
What would we do without girlfriends? After running a couple of errands I met up with my friend for a delicious, light lunch on beautiful Sarasota bay. Is it sounding like my day focuses a lot on food? I think it does!
Back home to catch up on office work and then on to planning my favorite group fitness class of the week that I teach at the local YMCA. I can't help but change it up every week to keep them on their toes and to keep me from getting bored. A little functional core work, a little cardio, a little squatting/lunging combination, a lot of great music and hopefully a lot of fun for the students. Remember, no matter what you feel like before exercise, you will always feel better afterwards because of those wonderful little endorphins cascading through your bloodstream!
Home again to wind down a lovely day with what else but another delicious and healthy meal. A staple healthy dinner at our house is a bountiful salad with an ever changing variety of leaves, veggies, fruits and proteins. (No this isn't every night. I said this was an ideal Polly Day, remember? Not an "I'm a slug day let's order pizza" that happens enough times!)
My dear husband then clears the dishes and cleans the kitchen (I crack myself up) and preps the coffee for the next early morning while I flip through the Oprah magazine that just came in the mail.
Healthy food, good treatment of stressed and tightened muscles, girlfriend and outside time, productive business time, exercise, family dinner time, indulgent magazine time…ahhhhh. What a great day. I'll have to schedule it again another 6 months from now!
You see, life can really get in the way of the way we think we'd like to live each day, so set aside some time to live it out just the way you want to. It doesn't have to be expensive or extravagant, just the simple things that feel good, and experience a day the way you think would make you happiest. At then end of the day it's nice to look back and feel happy about every little thing that transpired and to know that I was the one who created it.
