Keen vs. New Balance

Not too long ago a wonderful, brilliant motivational speaker blogged about arriving at her destination only to discover that she had grabbed two different styled left (or right) red heeled shoes.  I laughed and laughed at that one! Hahaha!  Oh my, what an embarrassing predicament!

Hi, my name is Polly and I grab mismatched shoes out the door when I’m in a hurry.  (Google your local chapter)  What you may not know is that in my spare time I’m a chef at Whole Foods Market.  I leave the house at 6 a.m., only 1 coffee mug down, garage is dark, 2 pair of non-slip shoes are piled up in our Not-In-The-House Shoe Rack.  I grabbed two and drove sock-footed to work.

There’s good news/bad news about this story:  Good news – I grabbed a right and a left.  Bad news – I was not AT ALL aware that anything was amiss until a co-worker said, “So, why the different shoes?”  I looked at her looking at my feet, I tilted my head in a perplexed fashion and took a peek in the direction of her questioning eyes.  Whaaa???  I burst out laughing, explaining that I had NO IDEA I was wearing two different shoes!

Here’s my point:  The mind is a powerful thing.  It believes anything you tell it.  It believes anything you tell it with a fervor until you tell it differently.  Up until my lunch break when my co-worker mentioned the miss-match, my mind and  my feet were perfectly balanced and comfy in my shoes.  Once I knew there was a difference, I was distracted the rest of the day by how different my feet felt. Without looking down I could have sworn that my left foot was wearing an army boot while my right foot was strutting around in a stiletto!  They could not have felt more different!

Lessons I learned today:

  • Dress fully before leaving for work
  • Dress in a well lit room
  • Don’t rush out the door.
  • Tell your brain that you are the most giving, organized, motivating, positive force on the planet!

As a person who has done this – I can relate – but you took it one step further when you observed how you felt after you KNEW that you were in two different shoes!   Wow, so cool.  Makes me wonder what ELSE I am telling myself every single day that is impacting how I feel.
