As a motivational speaker there is one thing in my life that is a given. I travel. A lot. And because of that, there is another thing that in my life that is absolutely certain. And that has to do with my dogs.
I have two of them. Two completely different, funny, loving, wacky dogs. And there’s one thing they have in common. When I come home from a trip (and this includes a 30 minute trip to the grocery store) and walk through the door, they run up to me and leap, hop, cry for joy and wag their tails with such fervor that I am CERTAIN they will fly off their little bodies. Basically, their message is, “OH MY GOSH! YOU’RE HERE! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! I MISSED YOU TERRIBLY! YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF MY LIFE! YOU ARE THE QUEEN OF THE WORLD! I GROVEL AT THE FEET OF YOUR WONDERFULNESS!”
And I stand there. Feeling so loved, so appreciated, so valued, thinking, “Yes. I am quite amazing, aren’t I?”
Well, maybe not that. But I cannot help but smile and feel somewhat outstanding.
So here’s your job. The next time you are home and someone in your family (wife, husband, son, mother) comes home, I want YOU to run up to THEM. Then leap, hop, cry for joy and vigorously wag your tail, exclaiming their wonderfulness and how much you loved and missed them.
I kid you not. You will be stunned, amazed and downright delighted at their response.
Just one thing. Do not bark, do not lick their legs and do not piddle on the floor. Other than that – go crazy.
