How to Live Longer!

As a motivational speaker, I LOVE it when I come across information that I think can positively impact people’s lives -and is easy to do.  And this one’s HUGE!!

Deborah Danner, a psychologist at the University of Kentucky conducted a landmark study of elderly nuns in which she found that the ones who expressed the most positive emotions in early adulthood – using words like “thankful” and “joy” in diary entries – lived about ten years longer than those who’d shown the fewest good feelings.

And how does one “show good feelings?”  You look for the good in everyday life.  You look for the joy and you look for things for which you can be grateful.  Then you focus on them, feel all those good feelings and then write about them.

Hey.  This is better than broccoli.  Just kidding, Polly Pitchford.

  1. I believe it. Just not sure I want to live ten years later. I think I’d rather be a grouchy old lady than a positive one. :)

  2. Thanks Linda! Both quality and quantity… gotta love that!

  3. I have so much joy right now!  It’s gotta either be the gig I just booked or the 3 glasses of iced tea…:) Thanks for the post – I love your writing!
