How to Get EXACTLY What You Need

Thanksgivinig-Dinner2Turkey and stuffing and gravy, oh my!

It's that time of year again – the week when most traveling motivational speakers get to be home with the family prepping for "the big day!" And fortunately, I'm no exception. I even got to attend church last Sunday where I heard the exact perfect message about Thanksgiving from the wonderful Rev. Karen Wolfson at the Center for Spritual Living.

It was about the GIVING part of thanksgiving. She said that if there's something you need in your life – then give it away.

That really got me to thinking. Frequently when something is missing in my life, my tendency can be to start feeling a little resentful.  Like, here I am doing all this for everyone and NO ONE seems to even notice.  The LEAST someone could do is express a little appreciation. Please tell me I'm not alone. Have you experienced anything like that?

Ah, well. I know exactly how I handle this the next time I have this experience. From now on…

  • When I need love – I will GIVE love.
  • When I need comforting – I will GIVE comfort.
  • When I need appreciation – I will GIVE appreciation.

How about you? Is there something you need right now? Why not give it away!

  1. With two daughters home from college I'm all about the giving right now. And yes, Linda, as someone who has cooked more in the past few days than in the past few months to make other's happy, I'm giving….Helps not to become bitter, and only makes it better. Great advice.

  2. Since I've been on the receiving end of so much giving lately it feels really good to turn around and be the giver!  I'll have to admit, though, even in the realm of giving I've harrumphed that my kind of giving is much better than what my other 2 sisters give and feel that they need to step it up and throw a little back my way. Embarassing to say but there it is.  Is is just a sister/family thing?  I'll practice giving without a score card thanks to you!

  3. You all are singing my tune!  Yes, I can relate. Especially to Polly – I have 3 sisters and it's been a life long quest to stop keeping score.  Thanks for the idea for writing a post about this very subject!
