How did you spend Leap Year?

Communication-Speaker-Colette-CarlsonHappy Leap Year.  OK, OK, it’s the day after (or two days after by the time you are reading this!)  How did you celebrate a day that only comes once every four years?

This motivational speaker spent Leap Year at California State University – Chico teaching 120 staff to be more assertive, improve their communication skills and stress less.  I cheesily leaped  onto the stage in my effort to be funny while helping them leap their skills, career, and lives forward.

This week was also National Pancake Day, National Pig Day, Peanut Butter Lover’s Day, and Old Stuff Day.  No, I’m not trying to promote more Macy’s One Day Sales, Hallmark cards or excuses to pig out on pancakes, bacon, and peanut butter or guilt you into purging your closets.  The point is, every day is special, a celebration, an opportunity to leap forward, to set new goals, soar to new heights.  Are you celebrating life’s joys and triumphs as they come, or are you just going through the motions?  Every day is an opportunity to leap forward and get rid of old “stuff” we no longer want in our lives whether it is getting rid of old habits, behaviors, or items that no longer serve us.

So don’t wait another 4 years to leap forward, or a year to eat pancakes.

  1. Dag nab it. I missed it. I didn’t even realize it was leap year. Story of my life.

  2. Great advice. Leap day is arbitrarily established – no different from any other day. Thanks for the reminder to treat every day as important. Peanut Butter Lover’s Day – really? I can just see the celebration in a modern public school cafeteria. Get out the EpiPens and the heart paddles.

  3. I always wondered what it would be like to be born on Leap Day.  Would this be a good thing – or a bad thing.  Well, nothing is EITHER…..but thinking makes it so, right Mr. Shakespeare?  Methinks it would be fun because it would be different.
