Motivational speakers are on the road a LOT – with the exception, usually, of Thanksgiving week. And when I'm home that week, for me it's about family, food, gratitude and …. television. I get to actually watch television as much as I want for a few days, even while I'm cooking (the kitchen faces the big screen televsion). And I heard someone say something this past week that really struck me as very powerful. Obvious, but powerful.
It was on the Rachel Maddow show. She said, "I'm grateful to live in a country where we have a national holiday to celebrate what we are grateful for."
Whoa. I hadn't ever thought about that before. We have an actual NATIONAL HOLIDAY so that everyone can stop and give thanks for what they are grateful for. There are some other countries that have a day to celebrate the harvest, but the tradition of celebrating this day of thanksgiving, seems to have started in America.
I am grateful that I live in America where we place such a high value on giving thanks.
