Four Fun Anti-Aging Habits!

  2. I greet the day with gladness.
  3. I stretch out as long as I can make myself which elicits one of those stretching growls, you know the one?
  4. I sit up and reach for a half glass of room temperature spring water and drink it down.

Ok, that's as far as I'll take you in my day but just imagine all the thousands of choices we make, most of them unconscious, that will either (and here it is) SPEED UP THE AGING PROCESS OR SLOW IT DOWN. There's no in between.  From how we move to what we eat and drink to how we think about ourselves to the products we use on our skin, each one affects how fast we age.

It doesn't take a motivational speaker on health and wellness to convince you to make lifestlye choices that will SLOW DOWN the aging process. In fact, I know you've heard all of these many times before but I want to present a different way of looking at your health – from the inside out. 

On a cellular level these behaviors help keep your chromosomes from unravelling.  The four healthy habits below can help to grow your telomeres, which act like plastic tips on the end of shoelaces. And you know what they say: A frazzled end of a chromosome is a quickly aging chromosome!

Be Social – It's important to talk openly and authentically about what's going on in your life at least once a week, so make spending time with friends and loved ones a top priority.

Go For A Run or A Walk – Aim to get in at least 30 minutes of moderate aerobic movement in every day. Remember, it can be in 10 minute intervals if you don't have a half an hour to give.

Eat A Whole Food, Plant Based Diet – Fill your plate with fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, soy and low-fat dairy.  Limit meat and refined carbohydrates, like sugar and white flour.

Have Quiet Time – It's been researched in Transendental Meditation that 22 minutes is the magic amount of time to meditate, not more, not less.  Well, I'm not sure about that but I think that's a reasonable amount of time to get out your yoga mat, do a few stretches and then sit quietly to help take the edge off your daily stresses. 

We are all going to continue to age but let's try to do it as slowly as possible.
