A Shocking Look at the Obesity Epidemic!

My eyes have been opened even wider to the repercussions of overweight and obesity in America in HBO’s 3 part series aired this week.  The Weight of the Nation is a must see if you are wanting  to understand the latest research.  I’ve copied the link below to watch it on your computer if you don’t get HBO or want to view it more than once.

I love a quote right at the end from a woman who lost weight and improved her health: “I’m an ordinary person doing a lot of ordinary things with extraordinary results.”

From your motivational speaker who encourages everybody to keep taking those baby steps!

Motivational Speaker Polly Pitchford didn’t always know the phytochemical benefits of kale, in fact, those words weren’t even in her vocabulary 30 years ago. Neither did she see any reason to do jumping jacks on a cement surface for an hour. But all it took was a chance vegetarian cooking class and some high-energy music to open her eyes upon a whole new world of healthy living. For 30 years Polly has practiced, studied, taught, educated and lived a healthy lifestyle that makes her such a powerful speaker.

Polly’s down-to-Earth and humorous approach mirrors her own lifelong journey to lasting, positive changes. The audience walks away with tangible plans for improving their health and their lives through food, fitness and fun.

  1. Wow, Polly, all I did was look at the TRAILER and I’m blown away!  I can’t WAIT to see what this is all about.  I just didn’t know it was this bad.  But it does make sense how devastating this will be to our entire nation if we don’t fix it.  Thanks for sharing this!!!

  2. As a former fatty, I can so relate to that woman’s comment. The everyday challenge to choose health over the party in my mouth still haunts me. I can only imagine how challenging it is for children who grew up with an abundance of food choices – most of them processed and containing sugar and fat. I can remember in school when on Valentine’s Day we would get a lone cupcake and apple juice from our room mother. When my children went to school, it was a buffet! I can still remember how many kids would approach me as team mom during sports games to say, “What are we having for snack?” This before they even began to play. We’ve created a nation of food focused individuals. This motivational speaker aches for the challenges we face.

  3. I ache too Colette!  I have hope that momentum is building in the public awareness of how devastating a condition our country is in with “foods by Monsanto”.  I believe the real devil is the food industry and their deep pockets in government.  That’s why I do my little part and follow the grass roots efforts of Center for Science in the Public Interest.  What an awesome organization!  Here’s the link if you’ve never heard of them before.  Save our children!!!!!  http://www.cspinet.org
