A Motivational Speaker’s Fabulous Future Diary

I did not invent this one.  I heard Dr. Joe Vitale talk about this idea to me and hundreds of other motivational speakers at a National Speakers Association’s annual conference I attended a few years ago and I think it’s absolutely brilliant.

During his main stage keynote, he said that while he had spoken to groups before, he had been quite nervous about speaking to professional speakers.  As he was saying this, I was thinking to myself, “but you appear so comfortable, relaxed, articulate and funny!”  He went on to say that the reason he thought he was enjoying the process of speaking to us was because the night before, as he was worrying about the outcome, it suddenly occurred to him how to fix the problem.

He took out his “Future Diary” and wrote an entry in it for the NEXT evening, as if he was writing about his successful presentation – that had already taken place!   He wrote about how relaxed and comfortable he was, how the words just flowed, how he was spontaneous and funny and how much he LOVED the entire experience.  He said that he FELT all those wonderful feelings as he wrote them, and he was convinced they influenced what he was saying, and how he was saying it.

What a fabulous tool!  We can use this for anything in the world we want!  Are you going on a date?  Got a job interview?  A project at work?  A meeting with the…um…not-so-friendly in-laws?  Just whip out your Future Diary and have a blast!

But, as always, the real secret is to visualize the positive scenario of what you are writing until you can actually FEEL the resultant emotions.

Try it!  You’ll love it!

From your VERY happy Motivational Speaker, who is going to make a Future Diary entry right now.
