This is such a great post, Linda. And it affirms the simple truth that people will forgive you when you admit to your mistakes. Look how QUICKLY you let it go, once she addressed her behavior. As a motivational speaker, I always say that people don't expect leaders who are perfect – but leaders who admit responsibility when they aren't.
I wouldn't have thought to use that phrase but it's so true! "I'm so embarrassed" conveys all three messages perfectly. Brilliant!
