As a motivational speaker I run a busy office and, like many people, get LOTS of junk mail. I remember once getting a particular printed advertisement that caught my attention. I don't normally read what looks like junk mail, but I did read this one. The reason I took the time to really look at it was because on the front of the page of the flyer there was a yellow Post-it note with the hand-written message, “This is really great!” And it was signed “Rachel.”
Get this: I don’t know anyone named Rachel, but I read the advertisement because, well, Rachel told me to.
I’m not alone. When volunteers were asked to fill out a survey, they were not only more inclined to do so, but gave more in-depth answers – if it was accompanied by a handwritten Post-it note on the front page, according to a study that appeared in the Journal of Consumer Psychology.
So, if you need a quick response from a co-worker or a boss, make certain to attach a sticky note. By the way – just hand writing your note on the cover page was NOT as effective!
Hmmmm. I wonder if I put a Post-it-note on that toilet seat that keeps getting left up…

Linda, when I read this study years ago I became a true postaholic!! Great info for anyone, and I especially encourage those in sales to take note! And, I believe everybody's in sales. Thanks for highlighting an incredible technique and truth.
That is so funny! I got one of those post-it notes too from a name of someone I've never met! Wow, what will innovative, creative people think of next?
The post-it has worked it's magic on me more than once. They might even be a great personal reminder to "drink water in the a.m.", "walk after dinner", etc. with your own signature. A loving reminder to yourself! I thank you, motivational speaker friend of mine, for giving me a great idea for my topic of motivational speaking; health and fitness!
Very cool! First time I have ever head this. I'm going to try it!
