We hear a lot of chatter about women trying to break through the proverbial glass ceiling – that barrier in the corporation that women seem to have trouble shattering. I respect the women throughout history who have worked to break through the glass ceiling – whether they accomplished it or not – because I see the courage to try as the success, not the outcome. And it occurs to me that we all have glass ceilings in our lives and in our workplaces – where there exists beyond them, a new and improved version of ourselves – where there exists a new idea, a new book, a new creation, a new business – something outside our zone of safety and comfort. And if you’re like me, you are constantly intrigued at what waits on the other side. So as your motivational speaker, today I want to encourage you to not only find that glass ceiling in your life, but CREATE a glass ceiling in your life. Some of us run into an existing ceiling (Example: Nobody will publish your my new book) and we work to break through. But sometimes you need to create a ceiling – raise the game on yourself – create a new goal beyond the comfort zone, whether it’s small or large. Train yourself to constantly push yourself - not because you have to, but because you want to. The more you do it, the more natural it will become. This, I believe, is one of the key ingredients to mastering your art and reaching your dreams. I never settle for good enough. In fact, I don’t even settle for brilliant. I just want to know if there’s more on the other side. So let’s go create a new glass ceiling today (only it won’t be glass because we can see it – but let’s not overthink this). And then let’s shatter it.
Are you ready? Me too! See you on the other side of your comfort zone!
You got it, missy! I’m with you 100% on this one! And sometimes I can get a little too comfortable and want to rest on whatever laurels I mught have. I DO need a reminder from time to time so thank you! You are a great example of this idea in action!!
Now you’re speaking my language sister! Lots of people live their life in their comfort zone. I don’t know what’s worse, living in your comfort zone or stretching yourself and jumping right into someone else’s comfort zone? So here’s to creating that glass ceiling and shattering it for ourselves – and only we can determine what that is! Thanks for the inspiration today.
