That beautiful round luscious ripe apple, didn’t start as an apple, it started as a seed. And before the seed could even be planted, the ground had to be prepared. A seed that had to be watered. And warmed. And watered again. Tended to until the sprouts finally broke the earth. But still not ready yet. It took more time and nurturing, and the right care to help it grow. And then it formed branches, grew inch by inch, branch by branch, leaf by leaf. Pruned and watered. Cared for diligently. Until one day – finally – it bore the much awaited fruit.
One of my objectives as a motivational speaker, is to help people reach their dreams. And one thing I often see, is that people want to skip the roots and go straight to the fruit. They want the pay off. They want the results. And what they have missed is that you can not get to the fruit until you have gone through the other stages – until you have prepared the soil, planted the seed, and tended diligently. It’s a process that takes time and continuous care. You just can’t skip directly to the fruit. It’s impossible.
So while it means you have to work harder and longer, and wait for that dream to become a reality- don’t skip the important foundation steps. Roots before branches.
How are your roots?
